PRINCESS AND PRINCESSES (SAMYIT)
There are two types of princesses and princes: the real sons and daughters of the Fon, and the sons and daughters of his brothers, that's the nephews and nieces. The title of a princess is Mboh, but if you succeed anybody in the palace, you're now a Kah, meaning if you die, you will be buried in the palace, same as your death ceremony.
After that, the succession is coming back to the palace so that the title can be given to the daughter of the present Fon.
The appellation of a prince is Mooh in Bali. When you're born, you can remain a Mooh, but if you fight and develop yourself as a Mooh, you automatically become a Samyit, a second title next to the Fon.
To become a Samyit, it's through an achievement where you now become a crowned prince.
To attain this, you have to distinguish yourself by leaving the palace, building your own home, bearing children, and holding a traditional bird, during which you're decorated with a traditional feather and crown, then you put the traditional math at the entrance to your compound. That's a Samyit.
The village masquerade doesn't enter the Samyit compound.
After this achievement, the Fon can decide to offer you a wife due to your achievement. During important meetings in the village, the Samyit is the only prince to be among title people with the Kahs. They're the ones to discuss secrets with the Fon.
They are the second in the royal family after the Fon. They're the private cabinet of the Fon. They're the ones who know the private life of the Fon.
If there's anything that concerns wives of the Fon, they're the ones to look into the problem.
That's why if one of the Fon's wives is misbehaving, she is referred to the Samyit for counseling and to see into it that the matter is handled.
In some situations, she is taken to the Samyit compound for some time in order to properly resolve the situation, after which she is brought back to the palace.
This is because the Fon can't take his personal problems to the servants or any commoners.
In the days of Bah Galabe, Bah Lobah was the one in charge of all palace financial issues, paying the fees of the princesses and princes. He is the one who takes care of the family issues and private activities of the Fon.
During the reign of Bah Gahgwayin, there was no Samyit during his 35 years of reign.
Some princesses who are Samyit must be so if they have succeeded one. It should be noted that a prince can never be a servant of his brother who is a Fon. That's why in Bali tradition, when a new Fon is enthroned, his brothers and sisters regain their grandparents' compounds.
The palace is only for the Fon and his servants because the palace is for the village. So any prince that remains in the palace is reducing his value.
